Read the comparison
Added lines use + and removed lines use −, alongside color. The two numbers are the original and modified line numbers. Unchanged lines provide context. A replacement appears as one removal and one addition.
One empty input shows all lines in the other version as additions or removals. Both empty inputs produce a clear empty result.
Whitespace and limits
- Windows (CRLF), older Mac (CR) and Unix (LF) line endings compare equally. A final line break counts as a blank line.
- By default, all other whitespace is significant. The optional setting removes whitespace within each line for matching; blank lines remain separate lines.
- Comparison is case-sensitive. Unicode text is supported, but visually identical composed and decomposed characters can differ.
- To keep the page responsive, compare up to 1,000 × 1,000 lines or 10,000 lines in a one-sided comparison. Larger documents should be split into sections.
